all women do at times like this that I was done with men! Mom only smiled and jokingly reminded me that my only other option then would be women and that they were all crazy bitches. But at least I could understand that insanity because I was a crazy bitch too. But as Mom and I spent time together that week, I reflected on the few lesbians I knew. I even recalled a night when I had a lesbian actually come on to me. It was a very intriguing experience. And even though I turned her down, I couldn’t ignore the fact that it really turned me on. Mom merely tousled my hair and smiled, saying that it was perfectly natural. Toward the end of February of 2013, I had fully recovered from my injuries and was now working a new job; my first job at a hospital, complete with bright pink scrubs and white pumps. As I had finally earned my Associate Degree; (okay, so it took me a little longer than two years), and was now in nursing school, I worked five nights a week essentially as a paid candy-striper. And I loved it! It was also around this time that I received the invitation to my aunt’s 50 th birthday party. Auntie Lucy is my Mom’s sister-in-law; the widow of her older brother, who passed away from cancer in 2011 when he was just forty-eight years old. I don’t even want to talk about this. So, Deanna’s parents were just like an aunt and uncle to Mom and her siblings just like my grandparents were like an aunt and uncle to Deanna; hence the "cousin" title. The families were bonded by affection, not blood. The two families lost contact after my grandparents got divorced and the Brady’s moved away in the early 1980s. But I remember vividly Mom talking about the Brady family with such vivid and fond memories throughout my entire life. Then around the time I started high school, Mom and Deanna’s parents suddenly got back in touch and maintained a strong correspondence via the internet and telephone. Then in the winter of 2012, while Mom and Jeff were waiting to board a flight to Florida for their bi-annual time share trip to Miami Beach, they ran into Deanna Brady at the airport. She was the pilot of their flight; and she was also now based here out of Detroit Metro Airport and living in Rochester Hills. Mom and Deanna became very close thereafter and Mom had tried on several occasions to arrange for me and Deanna to meet. But for reasons unexplainable, a meeting never materialized. Yet now for some reason, Mom was really giving me the full court press about making certain that I would come to Aunt Lucy’s birthday party so I could finally meet Deanna. Okay, I’ll be there I kept telling her. I’ll swear on a fucking bible if you want. But, as I rode shotgun in ...
