knocked and she let me in. “Hi,” she said cheerfully and we kissed. “What’s going on? Why’d you come in this way?” “The fucking garage door wouldn’t open,” I told her. “It wouldn’t?” Deanna said quizzically. “That’s odd. Guess we’d better have a look then.” Deanna led me the way through the mud room and opened the service door into the garage. She flipped on the light. As usual, her Lexus RX 350 was parked in the first slot. She then continued on to the second one which is my slot, and which should’ve been empty at that moment. But it wasn’t. “Oh here’s the problem,” Deanna said. “Somebody unplugged the door opener. Now I wonder who could’ve done that.” I couldn’t move. I couldn’t breathe. My body began to tremor to the core as my legs turned to rubber and grew weak. My lips and jaw began to tremble and my eyes instantly flooded with tears because parked where my little VW Beetle usually goes was a brand new moonlight white, 4 door, 2014 Infiniti QX70 with a 3.7 liter V-6 engine complete with an enormous bright red Christmas bow on top and ribbon around it. My head jolted back and forth between Deanna and the car. I couldn’t speak! The look and smile on Deanna’s face as she looked at me were unforgettable. I want you as safe as you can possibly be out there on the road sweetie.” “Oh God,” I sobbed as I fell into Deanna’s arms. “I love you! I love you so much!!” “I love you too my darling,” Deanna replied as she cradled and gently rocked me in her arms. “I don’t deserve you,” I sobbed on her shoulder. “You’re right,” Deanna whispered. “You deserve much better than me.” “There is no one better than you,” I snapped. “Anywhere in all of creation! There never has been; there never will be!” “You better stop it because you’re about to make me cry,” Deanna said as she choked up. I lifted my head off her shoulder and our lips came together in a magical Christmas kiss. “Merry Christmas,” I said. “Merry Christmas,” she replied. “Well, are you gonna unwrap her and get in or not?” I practically ran over Deanna as I hurried over to the driver’s side door and opened it, only to get another surprise. As the wondrous fragrance of a brand new car flooded my nose, my eyes fell upon a beautifully wrapped Christmas present sitting on the driver’s seat; and judging by the size of the box, I knew it had to be a dress. “Deanna,” I wailed. “I just couldn’t help myself sweetheart,” she said. Yanking the present out of the car, I tore through the wrapping paper like a crazed seven year old on Christmas morning. Opening the box and pulling back the tissue paper, my stomach suddenly filled with knots and my heart began to pound for I was ...
