for some reason. And even though she was actually supposed to be working, Amy would nonetheless sit with Victoria at a table or on the sofa and just talk to her. Very early on, Victoria asked Amy if she was a student at Berkeley. Amy then confided that she had suffered from a severe auditory processing disorder since early childhood as well as severe dyslexia. So much so in fact that at age twenty, she still couldn’t graduate from high school, so she had dropped out. And while she had seemed to have conquered her APD for the most part, she still struggled with her dyslexia as well as with her reading and writing abilities. Though she could read and write, her aptitude level was about that of a third grader at best. Victoria inquired if it hindered her job performance. Amy told her that it did in some respects, but since she was related to the family, at least by marriage, they were hence very patient with her. She went on to say that they were much kinder to her than her own mother was. Victoria then asked if Amy had pursued any other avenues of special education. “Well, that’s why I like talking to you Victoria,” Amy told her. “Talking to you is like going to school but in a much nicer way. Usually teachers just pick on me and try to embarrass me, but you’re so different. I really like you.
