    Victoria Richardson felt like a teenager who’d accidentally fallen asleep in her boyfriend’s bedroom overnight. Sliding carefully out of the strange bed in which she'd awoken, the forty-eight year old tenured professor of English Literature at Berkeley soon found herself on her hands and knees frantically searching for her clothing. Although the light of the dawn was filling the room with a soft glow, Victoria’s eyes were very hazy and her head groggy. Far too much to drink last night. Finally locating every article, Victoria quickly donned her white blouse plus the navy blue slacks and jacket of her pants suit. Stuffing her bra, panties and nylons into her purse, she then tiptoed toward the bedroom door carrying her shoes in her hand. Upon reaching the door, she opened it a smidgeon and peered out into the hallway. Satisfied that the coast was clear, she slipped quietly out of the bedroom and hurried down the hall to the stairs. The cavernous house was dark and deathly silent this early in the morning. Making her way quickly to the front door, Victoria was elated to find the home security system unarmed. Turning the deadbolt, she stepped out into the cool and crisp air of a February morning in northern California. Stopping just long enough to slide on her shoes, Victoria then hurried down the front cobblestone walkway to her Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the driveway.     grimaced. What little makeup remained on her face was smeared all about and there were a couple of big hickeys on her neck. Her long walnut brown hair was a greasy, disheveled mess all round her head and down over her shoulders to the middle of her back. Victoria quickly slid on her glasses and started the engine. Backing out of the driveway into the deserted street, she dropped the vehicle in drive and hit the gas. Being that it was Saturday, the traffic was light and Victoria had nowhere to go but home. Parking in the garage of her lovely two story townhome about fifteen minutes later, Victoria then hurried into the house and up to her second story bedroom. Along the way, she suddenly realized that she was again tiptoeing so as not to alert anybody to her presence. What the hell am I doing? Victoria thought. Who the hell is here for me to disturb? Having been divorced for over five years and with her two sons all grown up and on their own, Victoria Richardson lived alone. She likewise had no pets, no roommates nor any despondent siblings camping out on her sofa. She also had no live in lover and wasn’t even dating anyone. Reaching her bedroom, Victoria sat down on the side of her bed and took a moment to collect herself before stripping out of her clothes and dumping them into the laundry hamper.
