want to know,” Nick replied. “Don’t peek while I sleep.” Then in one quick flurry of movement, Nick rolled again on his side, rose up and planted a kiss on Tina’s cheek. He then dropped, rolled over to his opposite side and put his back to Tina. He fluffed a couple of the pillows and then finally settled down comfortably. “Good night, honey,” he murmured softly and then fell silent. For the better part of the next hour, Tina sat motionless beside Nick in bed with her heart pounding, her stomach churning and her entire body trembling as if with moderate shell shock. Yet it was the frantic spinning of her mind that concerned her most of all. And it wasn’t because what had transpired between her and Nick earlier that evening felt so wrong; it was because it felt so right! Dear God, what is happening? Finally feeling utter exhaustion beginning to overtake her, Tina shut off the TV and carefully snuggled down into a little ball on her side of the bed, doing her best not to disturb Nick. With no other living relatives, she was completely on her own and alone. So by the time his father was killed, Tina vowed that she would never let Nick experience that feeling of being utterly alone in the world. Tina had loved Dean but she had truly fallen in love with Nick. They were kindred spirits. And it was her love and adoration for Nick that inspired Tina to accept Dean’s marriage proposal. But just how she had defined that love and adoration for Nick was what was torturing her now. For from the moment their lips had come together earlier that evening, Tina knew that her definition of her love for Nick had always been wrong. And it frightened her like nothing she’d ever experienced. In just that brief second of intimate contact, Tina felt for the first time what deeply romantic and eternally passionate love between a man and a woman truly was. She had tasted his soul. And it was the flavor of her own. He was her soul mate. As ...
