stairs, my elation making each bound seem like a leap into space, all the joy and glee I associated with seeing Tara making my heart pound to the point of hurting. I couldn’t get down the stairs fast enough and it was a wonder, reflecting on it, that I didn’t trip and smash my head into the ground. I ran to the door and wrenched it open, dashing outside just as I saw the long legs of my favorite cousin stepping out of my dad’s car, quickly followed by the rest of her. She was dressed in skin-tight jeans that flexed with her strong legs and a light-blue windbreaker that she wore half-zipped, revealing her red T-shirt underneath. Her long blonde hair streamed down her back, lifting a little in the light wind that sent a shiver down everyone’s spine. She wrapped her arms around herself and shivered before looking up. Our eyes met and her smile, the smile that lights up the whole room whenever it appears, spilled across her face. I smiled as well, so large that I knew I looked goofy and I didn’t care. Tara was here. “Jack!” she cried in delight, leaping for me with her arms outstretched. “Hey hey!” I shouted gleefully, spreading my arms. She leapt on me, hugging me so tight I could feel my spine crackling as she squeezed. We were both laughing with delight as we hugged, each of us trying to squeeze the other harder. I even lifted her up to show her who was going to win this hugging contest and she whooped with delight. I could hear Kayla laughing behind me and I knew, at some ...
point, I’d have to put Tara down so she could say hi to Kayla, probably with just as much enthusiasm as she had greeted me. But not yet. I was still too overjoyed to let go of her just yet. My cousin…no, my sister was here! Tara was here! Finally! And with her she brought the last Trouble that I would have to face. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Author's Note: Me again. That's nothing compared to my actual high school drama teacher, who would sometimes come back to berate us during the performance. - The warm-up 'What a To-do' is a real theater ...
