traditional concepts? Could he see a tiny light shining through that little fissure? Could he leverage that aperture into an even more aggressive break? “No!” he said aloud, forcefully. If he truly loved her, he could not manipulate her into doing something she would not willingly do. She had to decide. He knew he would be happier with her. He knew she would, too. But, in reality, it was not his decision. She had to come to the realization herself. She had to choose the freedom he offered over the serfdom of her current existence. She had to see that the benefits far outweighed the detriments. He sighed in resignation. He had shown her the wonders available in those first months of their relationship. He opened the window to a different life. But he could only show her. The realization had to be hers alone. He couldn’t argue his position with her. She must come to embrace on her own what he knew was the reality. The ding of his email alert aroused him from his reverie. He’d reserved it to messages from Cheryl. He stood, walked to the computer and opened the email. “Free Tuesday?” she’d asked. He grinned. “Of course,” he typed. What the hell else was he going to be doing? She’d agreed and hitched herself on the stool, displaying an impressive expanse of smooth and firm thigh. “Holy shit! Melissa? Really?” “Yes, Melissa, really, holy shit.” Drew laughed. “How did you find me? Where did you get my number?” “Are you glad to hear from us? Cheryl gave me your card during one of our ladies room excursions.” “Well, obviously I’m delighted to hear from you. But, it’s only been four days?” “Five if you count today. We’re missing you guys.” “Is Micah there with you?” “Yes. Do you want to talk to him?” “I will, if you’d like. Make sure you tell him I asked about him.” Drew heard Melissa speak off the phone. “He said he’s good, and hopes you are, too,” she said into the microphone. “Yeah, I’m good. So, ...
