    Hook, Line, and Sinker John Phillips was 55 years old and he was lonely. His loving wife of thirty years had passed away last year from breast cancer. Oh, she fought the disease bravely and with courage, but in the end...the cancer won and took her life. He stood an even six feet tall and had sandy brown hair that was already going gray at the temples. He had raised a boy and girl and they were married and had c***dren of their own. Few people realized that his mom had a crush on the movie star, John Wayne. So, with her husband in agreement, she had named him John Wayne Phillips. It was a name he wore proudly though only a few close friends knew the story behind his name. He received well over seventy-five sympathy cards by post and he was grateful that his wife Patricia was so beloved by all who knew her. She was the first one in the neighborhood to greet new neighbors with a homemade casserole. She never missed a parent-teacher conference and she was the first to visit sick ones in the hospital as well as send them a card. For thirty years, John had the perfect life! He had a devoted wife, two lovely c***dren and was always beside his wife at the conferences at school. If a neighbor or a friend needed something doing or fixed up, John always volunteered.     high-rise just waiting to be built! His job kept him fairly busy and while raising his f****y, he was even more so. That is what bothered John the most. Now that his f****y was raised, he was more lonely than ever. Gone were the days when he would come home to a meal in the oven that seemed one-hundred per cent delicious. No hug or kiss hello when he came in the door, and no k**s shouting, “Daddy!” as he came in the door. His job kept him busy at work, and he still had some favorite programs on television but they were few and far between. He read some books but how many books can you read in a month? That was what he wanted to know. When the day was over, and the lights went off and he crawled into bed...well, that was the worse time of the day for John. It was then that each and every night he was painfully reminded of just how lonely he was! He looked across his bed. There was no longer a wife to kiss goodnight or snuggle up to on a cold winters night. Even during the summer months, his wife liked to cuddle up next to him. She mentioned on several occasions that she loved having a husband and someone to cuddle up to and loved the personal touch he provided. On the nights when they didn't engage in 'marital' activities, they would talk for a while or play verbal games.
