really weird!! Then suddenly, Deanna Brady was looking directly at me. My heart clutched like a set of grinding gears as that breathtaking smile of hers was melting me to the core while those two big, beautiful caramel brown doe eyes of hers seemed to be looking straight into my soul. I felt this bizarre urge to cover myself with my arms. “And this must be Amanda,” Deanna said; her voice just absolutely melodious. “Indeed it is,” I heard Mom say. “Amanda honey, I’d like you to meet one of the dearest people in the world to me. This is Deanna Brady. Deanna, this is my daughter, Amanda.” “Hello Amanda,” Deanna said with that beautiful smile as she extended her hand to me. “So nice to finally meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.” To this day, I have no idea how I did it, but somehow, I managed to smile, take Deanna’s hand and actually speak to her. I cannot remember for the life of me what I actually said to her, but evidently it was kosher. The only thing I remember vividly about that introduction is that Deanna cupped our two adjoined right hands with her left and I noticed that she wore no wedding ring or band on “that” finger. The only thing she hasn’t resorted to was putting a gun to my head.” “I got a text message from her at five-thirty this morning reminding me for the umpteenth time that the party was tonight.” “She didn’t,” I sighed. “She did,” Deanna said with a smirk. “Of course, I wouldn’t have minded as much had I been here in Detroit when she sent the message. But unfortunately, I was in Los Angeles. And while it was five-thirty here, it was only two-thirty there.” “Oh my God,” I gasped, cupping my hands over my mouth. “She’s insane.” “But we love her nonetheless,” Deanna said with a smile. “Good God, you’d think she was trying to hook us up on a date or something as crazy as she’s been about this,” I blurted without even thinking about what I was saying. “Oh honey, don’t you think I’m a little old for you?” Deanna asked playfully. “Age is nothing but a number,” I played back. “And it’s simply a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter.” “I like the way you think sweetie,” Deanna said with a big grin. “But while you may be my type, I seriously doubt that I’m yours.” Hercules once again punched me in the stomach. “You mean,” I managed stutter. “Yep,” She replied with a sweet smile and wink. My heart was suddenly pounding and ...
