    passion we shared that night for it truly redefined the magic of Christmas and the beauty of love that can come between two human beings. When I awoke on Christmas morning, the sun was just beginning to rise and I could see through the wall of windows that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky; and that the sky was a breathtaking kaleidoscope of purple, pale blue and soft orange. I could even still see a few stars; the dawn was truly gorgeous! I then found Deanna with her head resting on my chest and she was softly caressing my body as she listened to my heart beat. I gently tilted her head up to look at me and her smile took my breath away; as it always does. We shared a divine kiss; and at that very moment, Emily first became a twinkle in my eye. You’ve heard people tell you that when something happened to your parents long before you were born that you weren’t even a twinkle in their eye yet. Well, that Christmas morning was when Emily became a twinkle in both our eyes. We didn’t know her name then nor did we know that she would be a girl or even if she’d ever actually be at all. All we knew, or rather all I knew at that moment, was that I wanted to give Deanna a divine gift. I wanted to have her baby. Not just a baby or even our baby; but her baby. I had done some research and reading and I knew that it could be done.     something that might come close to equaling all the wonderful things that she’d given to me. And I wanted to be a Mommy and I wanted Deanna to be a Mommy too. And I wanted us to share it equally in every respect. As of that moment, Deanna was forty-three years old and would be forty-four in less than two months. And even though she was in excellent health, in tip top physical condition and did not smoke or do drugs, she was over the age of forty; and that almost automatically put her in an elevated to high risk category for child bearing. Now I on the other hand, was only twenty-three years old at that moment and wouldn’t be twenty-four until the following July, so I was in my prime for child bearing. “So,” Deanna whispered. “Are you saying that you want to have one of my eggs harvested and then be fertilized through a sperm donation in a petri dish or a test tube or whatever and then implanted into you to carry through pregnancy and to give birth to?” “Yes,” I told her. “That would make you the biological mother and me the birth mother. Basically I would be a surrogate for you. But since we are a couple, there would be no conflict of custody after the fact. We're the parents.” Deanna was quiet for a very long moment as she took this all in.
