Part 2 – Blue (continued) Chapter 16 There was not the slightest doubt in my mind that intended to fuck me. My limbs began to quiver as we reached the landing, and he led me by the wrist down the hall to his study. My eyes darted anxiously over those several fixtures in the room, still so sharply imprinted in my head: the very thing that started all of this, my massive painting, now mounted on a nearby wall; the sprawling desk where he’d torn apart my pea coat; and the edge of his low, leather daybed, where he’d both bruised me, and made me beg for more. My breath was labored as he sat me down again on the daybed. He didn’t join me. He stood at his desk, sifting fixedly through a slim stack of papers. He drew one out, and laid it in my lap with a red pen. “Sign this.” My eyes narrowed. By a very wide margin, paperwork was easily the last thing I expected to be doing with him in this room. I glanced over it. Several signatures, his included, were already scribbled near the bottom, and the name of an obscure bank was emblazoned at the top. He leaned back against the edge of his desk. “It’s for a safe deposit box,” he said coolly. “I’ve already put in your payment for the first painting, and your advance on the next three.” He folded his hands, “I also dropped off your belongings from your friend’s apartment. And now that you have this ,” he removed a small silver key from his pocket, and tossed it toward me, “you’re the only one with access. So, when the time comes, Penny,” ...
his tone darkened, “everything you need will be ready and waiting.” I scowled, glancing from him, to page, and back again. “I’m... not sure I understand.” “Well,” he ran a hand through his hair, “when you do decide to leave this place, Miss Foster,” his words were strict, “you might not want to waste any time about it. I don’t foresee things between us going that way. But if they should,” he caught my gaze, “I certainly wouldn’t want anything standing in your way.” My brow tensed, and I glanced down to the key in my hand. He feigned a smirk, “Don’t lose it.” I still wasn’t sure what to make of it. But I nodded nervously, signed, and handed him back the paper. He slipped it surreptitiously back into the stack. “…You um,” I bit my lip, “you really put away all my old stuff?” “Not all,” he reached back, and I felt the blood drain from my face as he raised from his desktop the leather riding crop Madame had sent home with me the night before. “There were a couple of interesting items—I thought we find some use for them while you’re here.” My skin turned to magma as he ran his hand along the shaft. “Why didn’t you tell me you ride, Penny?” I blinked. I couldn’t quite tell if he was toying with me. “You…never asked.” In truth, I hadn’t touched a horse since I was about twelve years old, trotting up and down the beach on my brother’s mare back in Nags Head. A storm had blown in as we were coming back. The thunder spooked her. She reared up. I fell. And when her hooves came down, she ...
