The two women stayed together until about mile sixteen when Rose was beginning to feel the effects of crossing the Queensboro Bridge, so Kathy went on ahead. Rose just concentrated on finishing the race, getting her second wind around mile eighteen. She had long ago lost sight of Kathy and hoped she was doing well. While she was running, she checked her time periodically and was still on track for a decent finish. With a final spurt the last hundred yards, she crossed the line with her best time yet. Kathy was there cheering for her and hugged her, then leaned in and planted a kiss right on her lips. Rose was a bit taken aback, but chalked it up to the excitement of the moment. “So how did you do Kathy?
