Let me know what you think, then leave some feedback at the end of this chapter. *****************Chapter One, Part One***************************** As my career in the novel business really took off, I still found time to stay active in my home community and organizations. But one of the things I like to do on a leisurely basis is go bowling. I belong to a therapeutic bowling league on Fridays during the spring and the fall seasons. As the fall season drew to a close in early December of '03, one of my teammates who happens to be a childhood friend of mine came up with an idea. "Hey Mark," said Tim. "I got a question for you." "What is it?" I asked. "What are you doing in early April?" he asked. "I don't know yet." I said. Then I asked, "Why, what's up?" Then Tim explains, "Well, I know you like to travel every so often. I thought maybe you would like to meet up with me and a few other people down in Myrtle Beach for my birthday. You would stay with me at the resort where I stay at in the winter months."     back from there?" "The second week in April." Tim said. Then he asked, "If you do decide to come down, how soon will you let me know?" Then I said, "Once I know, you'll know. Okay????" "Cool!!" Tim said. Now, me and Tim go a long way back since we were kids. We grew up with the same group of people together, went to the same schools together as well as belonging to a couple of organizations too. But Tim wasn't always disabled, nor has he always been single either. You see back when we were growing up, Tim had a sports-related injury playing soccer. You could say that Tim was an aggressive player. But during a soccer game at a local soccer field, Tim collided with an opposing player and landed on his back- partially paralyzing him. Although his soccer playing days were over, he was still a one hell of a good sport and a team player. So in high school, he helped out with the Special Olympics soccer team. After graduation, he meet a girl we both knew from our church. And a few years after. Both Tim and Amy got hitched in the summer of 1994. But because of his disability, he and his wife would go down to Myrtle Beach three months out of the year through some time share deal they both had. But sadly, Amy died from a rare form of cervical cancer that went undetected. She died in 2002. It actually worked out pretty good for me. So I put in for the time off in April. As it turned out, the store I was working at would be undergoing some renovations for two months starting in late March. ...
