and rolled my eyes jokily. “Fine. But only for you!” I laughed, still managing to maintain eye-contact with the curly-haired boy as I spoke. ~ “See… It wasn’t that hard, was it?” Ethan’s body came up behind my own as I was swimming to the side of the boat hidden from the harbour and the view of people; exhausted by the hour of strenuous catching that my body most definitely was not used to. “Will you stop creeping up on me” I laughed; my heart thudding beneath my chest. “Oh come on, you knew I was following you.” I could tell he was smirking by the tone of his voice, and as soon as I spun in the water to face him, I was proved right. I continued to bob backwards for a few feet before I felt the metal railings of the steps to our boat hit the backs of my knees, and I gripped on to them and turned myself back around, climbing up the ladder and leaving Ethan in the water below. “Beer?” I called, rummaging through the cooler as I awaited his reply. “Yeah, go on then.” I pulled out two Coronas from the ice and grabbed the bottle opener from the side, popping the caps off of them before descending back down to the water below. Most people have just heard of us, that’s all.” “Sorry” I laughed, feeling slightly awkward and ignorant that I had no clue who he was. “I’m not really into X Factor and that type of music…” “It’s cool” he smiled, shrugging nonchalantly. “Me either.” “Oh? What sorta stuff are you into then, Cullen?” He grinned as I emphasised his surname, although seemingly unphased by my casual approach. I’d come to know his surname from mine and Beth’s conversation earlier on. “Hmm… John Mayer, The Beatles, Elvis, The Wombats, Pink Floyd… shit like that.” “Nice” I retorted, genuinely impressed by his decent taste in music. “You?” “Similar really… Pink Floyd are in fact one of my all-time favourites” I smiled. He was easy to talk to; much easier than I first anticipated. He had that presence that made you want to talk to him and get to know him, and when he asked questions, he seemed genuinely interested in what you had to say, and our conversation flowed easily for the next twenty minutes or so. I pulled myself up a few steps and placed the bottles on the side of the deck, before letting myself fall back down to the water below; allowing it to engulf me, before coming back up to face him. Propping myself on to the lowest step of the boat that was still submerged in the water, I laughed, sweeping my palm over his mass of sodden curls as I pushed them back slick against his head. ...
