Hummingbird

The beauty of the hummingbird is in it's power, That awes most every mind that it can reach, The wings that race much faster than my heart can beat, The sugar-water feeds its power and strength. The hummingbird caught rarely by a much skilled hand, The gentle aura calms the small one's mind, The heart of man receptive to the hummingbird, And sees that the small bird must fly away. The one I love is to me but a hummingbird, Pure, and kind, and gentle to one and all, And this is why I cannot keep my hummingbird, To cage something so pure is just a sin. Though I love my hummingbird with all of my heart, To still it's wings would tear my heart apart, The nectar that it seeks is in the world around, Not in the single flower that it finds.
