any better she thought. Thankfully, a waiter came and led Barbara and Tom to a table. It was not much longer until the waiter came and led Jessie and Badger to a table. As they sat, Badger looked around. They were in a dimly lit crowded corner of the dining room. Jessie perceiving Badger’s disappointment explained that since her reservations had changed, this was probably the only table available. Badger took her hand and gave it a squeeze. “It’s okay Jess, but Al Miller’s wife deserves better!” the black man smiled his pearly white teeth seem to glow. As the waiter passed by, Badger took his arm. “Excuse me, there is some mistake. This is not our table. Ours is table five in the Vision room.” “I am sorry sir, that table is being cleaned. It is one of our most coveted tables and it is surely reserved.” “Yes it is.” returned Badger, “Reserved for us.” Badger pulled out a roll of cash and peeled off three $100 bills and looked at the waiter. “Still not ours?” Badger asked. The waiter nodded negatively. When you seat us at table five then this is yours!” He tapped the money. Jessie was stunned and she had not recovered from the shock when they were seated at table five. The view was beautiful. Table five was in the part of the restaurant that hung outwardly from the building that was entirely glass. The ceiling, walls, and the floor were all glass. Jessie could look down at the street sixty-five stories below or outward toward the edge of the city lights miles away or upward to the endless number of stars. “Oh my God… Badger! This is so beautiful! Thank you so much!” breathed Jessie. “Only the best for my wife!” Badger returned playfully. He was enjoying this game. “And did you see the look on the Garret’s faces when we strode by them?” Leaning back in the chair very nonchalantly, “Why I didn’t even notice where they were sitting!” chuckled the lying Badger. Jessie and Badger enjoyed a quiet delicious dinner in one of the most romantic places in the city. Once when it fell particularly quiet, Jessie’s mind wandered to her distant husband when she recognized the lights of the interstate. “Missing Mark aren’t you?” asked Badger. “Yes, I am.” Then she gave her escort a warm smile and gently squeezed ...
