    Doing Allison’s Chores…Then Doing Allison It was late summer at the Hirsch home, and the day had finally come for Tim and Allison’s parents to embark on their long planned vacation to Italy that they had been organizing for the last year. After all, 20th anniversaries don’t come around all the time. Also, Tim, 17, and Allison, 16, were finally old enough to stay home by themselves without their parents being worried that they could take care of themselves. Their parents would leave all of the necessary emergency contact information, and money in case a problem arose, but Mr. and Mrs. Hirsch trusted their kids to take care of themselves and the house while they were away. It took a few hours once the car came to pick up their parents, for Tim and Allison to grasp the freedom that they would have for the next week. They were excited to be on their own, with no orders from their parents, no one to tell them to turn down the music or go to bed, and no one to tell them that their schoolwork must get done. Their parents did, however, leave a list of chores that had to be done while they were gone, and there would be no way to avoid not getting the work done. There was lawn to mow, floors to be washed, cars to be serviced, and other small, not so difficult chores, but of course, it was summer, and Tim and Allison just wanted to spend time with their friends, and out in the yard taking full advantage of the hot sun.     the housework, after taking advantage of their first night of freedom, they would began the work in earnest in the morning. Tim started with mowing the lawn and watering the shrubs, and he became a little annoyed when Allison decided to sleep late, and not pull her fair share. “Aren’t you getting out of bed, lazy” Tim beckoned, not totally serious. He and Allison were more than brother and sister. They were more like friends, sharing all of their life experiences, and seeking each other’s guidance regularly. “Not yet” Allison shot back. “You worry about your chores. Don’t worry about me.” At this point Tim was getting a little frustrated, but he contained his anger, and moved along with his work. After all, the lawn was not going to mow itself. Thank goodness the weather was nice. It was about 75 and sunny, and Tim put on his i-pod and with the music blaring, he mowed for about an hour, really breaking a sweat. Just as he was finishing, Allison came out of the house, still yawning. “Finally decided to get out of bed, huh sleepyhead?” Tim kept mowing, not bothering to look at his sleepy sister as he teased her. He liked to tease Allison, and she was usually a good sport. “Well…aren’t you going to lecture me about not getting my share done?” Allison was really goading Tim, trying to get him riled up. Tim finally turned around to acknowledge his sister, and thank goodness he had turned off the lawnmower, because what he saw would certainly have caused him not to be able to control ...
