    Over the next few days, the reality of the impending divorce was beginning to set in for everyone. Sam and Barbara would be going their separate ways soon, and once the lawyers had worked everything out, they were confident that things would be better. They would both be free to pursue their own interests, which had become divergent over the last few years. Michael’s life would go on, albeit with some minor inconveniences. Barbara was now deeply involved in the inner-workings of the doctors’ office, since being promoted recently, and although she tried to get home early as often as she could, to spend as much time as Kara needed, it just didn’t always work out. That morning, since Michael would be helping Sam look for an apartment after school, Barbara promised Kara that she would be home by 5:45, and they would have dinner together, and talk for as long as Kara needed.
