    Fridays had not always been this way. Fridays had once been special in a different way. Friday had been the day when Dad came home from work early and the three of them - Mom, Dad, and Billy -- might go out to dinner, or a movie, or something else that families did together.     divorce became final late that summer, she had announced confidently that she was going to begin a new life. Part of that, she said, was to be going out with her girlfriends on Friday nights. And so she did, dressing her only slightly chubby but still attractive self up in sexy dresses and heading out somewhere. She was always all smiles when she left, often giggling like a schoolgirl as she and her girlfriend talked about how much fun they were going to have. But when she came home the smiles were gone and replaced by a quiet sadness.
