A kaleidoscope of fragmented light and colors distorted Jessie’s vision. She was curled up on the living room couch alone. The sun did not have long as the day grew short. Her head pounded like never before; her throat knotted and raw. Mascara streaked her cheeks where tears had freely flowed until her eyes had no more to give. Without the strength to do anything else, Jessie pondered what had happened between her and her husband. She recalled the day and the events that led to the unraveling of her life. --- An early Saturday morning blue sky shown through the bedroom window as Jessie opened her eyes. She peered over at the alarm clock. ‘Hmm… seven thirteen, not too bad for a late night out with the girls,’ she thought. She rolled over in bed stretching and then felt a small pang of sadness. Her husband’s pillow lay unused. ‘Where are you this morning baby?’ Another stretch as she set up. It would be okay, he would be home tonight, he promised! A smile crossed her lips as she stretched. Her night shirt, nothing more than a long silky t-shirt that buttoned, strained against her breasts. Jessie was getting used to waking up alone. Her husband, a long haul truck driver, was probably a couple of states away. However, Mark had been vigilant not to spend too many nights away from home.
