It all started a few weeks ago. My husband owns a small business and has always done quite well. He has done a great job of providing for us over the years and we basically have everything we could ever need or want. Things were going along smoothly until recently when oil prices took a significant drop. It seems like it happened over night, but my husbands sales suddenly dried up and we had minimal cash coming in. We certainly don't live outside of our means, but my husbands is our only source of income, and as a result things have gotten much more lean. We're definitely not starving, but we're definitely going through a tougher time. With our mortgage payment due, and Christmas just around the corner, I decided to do my best to help out. I decided to post an advertisement on a local business site stating that I was looking for odd jobs. I described my background and I said that I was willing to do "clerical work to cleaning, and everything in between". I figured that any money earned would help with Christmas bills. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that the ad would get much interest, but I was excited at the prospect of being able to help my f****y in a difficult time. I responded that I was interested, and I asked what the pay was as well as which nights that they needed help. The second response, was an offer to work with a company to try and get people to sign up for a credit card. The position was mostly paid through commission, and sounded as though they needed someone during standard business hours and on weekends, so I decided it wasn't for me. The third response was a bit more difficult to understand. It said "In response to your posted advertisement, I'd be interested in discussing your availability and interest in helping me with various personal matters. I am willing to compensate generously. Please let me know if you are interested". I really didn't know what to make of this, but I responded that I was interested, depending on the work, the hourly requirements, and the pay. The following morning, I again checked my email. I was a bit disappointed that I had no new replies to my original advertisement and I was even more disappointed that I had only one response from the emails I had sent the day before. Feeling somewhat hopeless, I opened up the only email I had received. As I started to read it, I nearly fell over! The ...
