I woke up the next morning feeling rested and energized. I found that the wound on my abdomen had partly closed after being opened from last night’s activity. Erida was not next to me, and was preparing breakfast. “Good morning Shadow,” the beauty said. “How was your sleep?” “Good morning,” I replied. “I slept well.” Erida handed me a platter with a hard boiled egg and slices of potato. “Thanks,” I said. We dug into our meal and talked. “Are you leaving today?” Erida asked. “You should before that wound gets infected. I see it opened from last night.” “You’re right, I should leave soon. I will go after this meal,” I answered. I cracked the shell of the egg and peeled it off, then bit into it. The yolk was solidified just right. Erida handed me the coconut husk, which had been refilled with water. “Thank you,” I said. I was getting thirsty from the dry yolk, and took a swig of water. “There is a stream passing by this place. Follow it downhill and in several hours you will find a town,” Erida instructed.” “I will remember that,” I assured. I finished the slices of potato and handed the platter to Erida. I sat down on the bed and looked at my armor. It was made of rusty, used steel plates. I put on the shoes and greaves first, then worked my way up to the chestplate. After a few more minutes of figuring where the parts went, I was fully clad in armor with only the helmet left. I gave Erida, who was watching me, a long kiss on the lips and slipped the helmet on, keeping the ...

I will see you soon,” I said to Erida. “Goodbye Shadow,” Erida replied. “Have a safe journey and godspeed.” She handed me three gold coins. I nodded in appreciation and hid them in my shoe. I picked up my sword. It was medium length and very light. There was a dull red jewel in the hilt, which was slightly decorative. The blade was rusty, and came to a dull point on the end. I would have to do something about that soon. There was a scabbard for the sword, and I found a place to hook it on my armor next to the waist. I slipped my sword into the scabbard and made for the door. I turned to look at Erida one last time. “Good luck, my knight,” she whispered. I nodded and exited her home. I heard a stream nearby and walked towards it as Erida had instructed. The water was a clear blue, and rushed downhill and passed by a town which was barely visible in the distance. I followed the stream, occasionally stopping for a drink. The sun blared down at me, causing sweat to rise from my skin underneath the protective armor. The trail continued for many hours, and there were no other humans ever in sight. A low growl came from behind me. I froze and reached for my sword. I turned around and put down my visor, then drew the weapon, which was dull but somewhat usable. It was a huge brown bear. I didn’t know what was its problem, but if it wanted a fight, I was planning to give it one. The bear charged at me, and my instincts kicked in. ...
