Nathan with two drinks, instead she was greeted by the sight of a burnt orange hat with a shock of blond hair and a quirky grin beneath it. “Jessie” stated the woman, reaching out an expectant hand. Caught off guard, Libby replied quickly and without thinking. “No, my name's Libby” she stammered, immediately realizing the foolishness of her response. Jessie giggled, the sight and sound of which delighted Libby. “Well that was going to be my first question. Nice to meet you properly Libby.” “Nice to meet you too Jessie” said Libby, pleased that if anything Jessie seemed to consider her initial response endearing. “Do you like the hat I chose?” Jessie's eyes flicked upwards in a gesture towards the beach hat Libby had seen her choosing earlier. “It's lovely Jessie. You have an interesting hat selection method.” “You noticed that? What did you think?” Confused slightly by the question, Libby glanced towards the bar to see where Nathan was and then turned her attention back to Jessie. “Of what? The hat or the face pulling and dancing?” “Well I know you like the hat. You've already told me. You seemed to be interested in the way I was choosing it. Libby found herself looking into a pair of lively inquiring brown eyes. “Did you go for a walk Libby?” The question was asked simply enough so as not to arouse any suspicion in Libby's mind. “There are some lovely walks along the beach and amongst the palm trees. I've only been here three days but that's already one of the things I love.” “Erm, yes. Through the fishing boats and along the path.” “Did you like the marina?” “What marina? We didn't reach a marina?” “Really? You were gone long enough to get there. Oh well, you must be slow walkers.” She giggled again and reached for her hair, twirling it as she did so. “No we don't walk slowly.” Libby said, and then stopped, unsure what to say and aware that she had opened up to Jessie a whole other realm of reasons as to why they hadn't reached the marina. A silence hung between them, comfortable and inquiring. Jessie leaned forward again and took the straw between her lips her eyes never leaving ...
